Why It Happens (Root Causes We See)

We don’t just treat the muscle. We assess your spine, pelvis, gait, tissue quality, and habits to stop the pain at the source.

Overuse + under-recovery (running, lifting, pickleball, cycling)

Prolonged sitting / “desk hips” → hip flexors tighten, glutes under-activate

Pelvic/SI joint restrictions and lumbar mechanics issues

Weak glutes & core so the piriformis “overworks” to stabilize

Old ankle/hip injuries changing gait mechanics

Lifestyle drivers: poor sleep, dehydration, elevated stress → higher tension and slower recovery

What Is Piriformis Syndrome?

Your piriformis is a small, deep hip rotator that runs from the sacrum to the outer hip. When it gets tight, overworked, or inflamed, it can compress or irritate the nearby sciatic nerve, causing buttock pain that may radiate down the leg. Desk time, running, heavy lifting, or prior back/hip issues can all set the stage.

Common signs:
Deep ache in the glute (one side), worse with sitting or driving
Burning/tingling down the back of the thigh or into the calf/foot
Pain with getting out of the car, stairs, or crossing the leg
Relief when standing/walking vs. prolonged sitting

Treatment at Adapt Health Clinic - in campbell

We combine hands-on care + targeted exercise + tech so results stick:

Restore motion at lumbar, sacroiliac, and hip joints that overload the piriformis

to reduce inflammation and accelerate tissue recovery

for chronic tendon/enthesis pain that keeps sciatica flaring.

Myofascial/IASTM, active release, pin-and-stretch for piriformis, deep gluteals (GMed/GMin), TFL, hamstrings.

to boost oxygenation, down-regulate inflammation, and enhance sleep (often a game-changer for recovery)

Figure-4 Piriformis Stretches
Glute Bridge or Hip Thrust
Band Walks (lateral)
Nerve glides (if irritable sciatica-like symptoms)

floods tissues with oxygen to calm inflammation and support nerve healing; many patients also sleep better.

What Your First 4 Weeks Look Like

Weeks 1–2: Calm pain, restore motion (hands-on + laser), begin 2–3 micro-drills/day

Weeks 3–4: Progress strength (glutes/core), add shockwave if chronic; taper visit frequency

After: Maintain with a 10-minute routine and monthly tune-up (or as needed during high-load training/desk periods)

Real Patient Story (Campbell)

Not sure if it’s time to get help? Consider chiropractic care if you experience:

A product manager commuting to San Jose had a deep right-glute ache with numbness down the hamstring after long drives. We freed the SI joint and hip capsule, released piriformis/TFL, started 90/90s + band walks, and added laser for inflammation. By week three she sat through back-to-back meetings without pain. A simple 10-minute routine + monthly check-in has kept her flare-free through two product launches.

I came to Adapt Health Clinic to get treated for an old foot injury. I was in unbearable ankle pain, my daily activity levels went down to almost zero because of the pain. I went to physical therapy for months and saw little to no results. After just 3 shockwave sessions I saw more progress than I did the entire time I went to traditional physical therapy. My pain has significantly reduced and I’m well on my way back to my normal activity levels. I really can’t thank shockwave and Dr. Kyndra enough. Dr. Kyndra really knows her stuff and she’s been awesome at guiding me through this type of treatment. Huge shout out to Dr. Kyndra!

I've been in to see Dr. Kendra a few times to help with some back injuries. She is so helpful and I always feel better walking out than I did walking in!

I absolutely love coming to see Dr. Mike and his team. Every time I leave, I feel better and lighter, and I honestly look forward to my visits. Dr. Mike introduced me to laser therapy and it’s been such a game changer for my chronic pain and migraines. I didn’t realize how much relief was possible until now. Dr. Kyndra is amazing with cupping, and the way she does it feels so healing. The masseuse is also incredible and really completes the whole experience. You can tell they all care about their patients and put their heart into the work. I’m just really grateful to have found them.

I had a fantastic experience at Adapt Health Clinic! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing from the moment you walk in. My masseuse, Nathalia, was incredibly attentive, she took the time to listen to my concerns and tailored the treatment perfectly to what I needed. I really appreciated how knowledgeable she was about different techniques and treatment options, and how she explained everything clearly. I left feeling noticeably better and cared for. Highly recommend Adapt Health Clinic for anyone looking for professional, personalized care and exceptional massage therapy!

I had an excellent experience with Nathalie (Nathi). After hip surgery, I was dealing with tightness, soreness, and limited mobility, and the combination of massage therapy and acupuncture made a huge difference. Nathi took the time to really understand my recovery needs and tailored the session perfectly, focusing on the right areas with just the right level of pressure and technique. I left feeling more relaxed, with noticeably improved range of motion and reduced discomfort. Beyond the skill, Nathi brings a calm, caring, and professional energy that makes the whole experience restorative. I highly recommend her to anyone recovering from surgery or looking for thoughtful, effective bodywork.

I’ve had lingering shoulder/pec tendon issues from an old injury. I’ve been getting shockwave and laser treatment at this clinic. The treatment has been helpful and It has been a great experience ! Usually I leave the clinic with more range of motion than when I arrived. My shoulder gets pretty achy from it in the following days so proper recovery and the right amount of PT for retraining movement patterns is helpful for locking in progress. Definitely recommend!

Nathalia is the one of the best massage therapists I’ve ever had. She has tons of experience and can always find my trouble spots. She is super caring and supportive and will always follow up with you to make sure your body feels better after each session. She makes things easy and you feel comfortable talking to her right away. She’s also really strong in case you need a heavy hand for those sore and trouble spots on your body.
