Class IV Laser Therapy for Pain Relief & Tissue Healing
PBM Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in San Jose CA
What Is Class IV Laser Therapy?
Class IV laser therapy IV also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) or high-power laser therapy uses concentrated near-infrared light energy to penetrate deep into tissue and stimulate healing at the cellular level.
Unlike Class III (cold laser) devices which operate below 500mW and only reach surface tissue, Class IV lasers operate at 1-15+ watts. This higher power allows therapeutic energy to reach muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and joints that lower-powered devices simply can’t access.

How it works:
– Near-infrared wavelengths (typically 800-1100nm) penetrate 5-7cm into tissue
– Photons are absorbed by mitochondria inside cells
– Cellular energy production (ATP) increases dramatically
– Inflammation reduces, circulation improves, tissue repair accelerates
– Nerve sensitivity normalizes, reducing pain signals
The result is faster healing, reduced inflammation, and pain relief that comes from genuine tissue repair — not just symptom management.

Class IV vs. Cold Laser vs. Low Level Laser Therapy:
Not all laser therapy is equal. Cold laser (LLLT) uses less than 500mW of power and only reaches surface tissue, requiring sessions of 20–60 minutes. Class III improves on that slightly but still works at shallow depth. Class IV — what we use — operates at 1–15W, penetrating 5–7cm deep into joints and tissue, with treatments completed in just 5–10 minutes.
If you’ve tried laser therapy before without results, Class IV is likely a very different experience. It’s significantly more powerful and clinically effective than the cold laser devices used at most clinics.

Conditions We Treat with Laser Therapy
Class IV laser therapy is clinically validated for a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and soft tissue conditions. It’s particularly effective for chronic conditions and injuries that have been slow to respond to other treatments.
Back Pain
Laser penetrates deep into paraspinal muscles, spinal joints, and disc tissue to reduce inflammation and provide sustained relief — especially effective for chronic low back pain and herniated discs. Works powerfully alongside chiropractic care
Neck Pain
Reduces cervical inflammation, speeds nerve healing after whiplash, and addresses the chronic muscle guarding that keeps many neck pain patients stuck. See our full neck pain treatment approach
Shoulder Pain
Rotator cuff tears, tendinitis, and frozen shoulder respond exceptionally well to laser's anti-inflammatory and tissue-regenerating effects.
Sciatica
Modulates nerve activity and reduces inflammation around compressed nerve roots — addressing the source of radiating pain, not just the symptom. Especially effective combined with chiropractic adjustments
Piriformis Syndrome
Relieve deep glute pain by releasing the piriformis, mobilizing hip/SI, and activating glutes to reduce sciatic irritation
Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy from diabetes, chemotherapy, or injury often responds well through laser's nerve-modulating and circulation-enhancing effects.
What to Expect During Laser Therapy Treatment

- Before Your Session:
We review your health history and confirm laser therapy is appropriate for your condition. Certain conditions (active malignancy, pregnancy over the treatment area, photosensitive medications) require modification or alternative treatment.

- During Treatment:
You’ll wear protective eyewear. The handheld laser applicator is moved over the treatment area in slow, overlapping passes. Most patients feel a gentle warmth it’s comfortable and non-invasive. Sessions typically last **5-15 minutes** depending on the size and depth of the treatment area. Chronic or larger areas may require slightly longer sessions.

- After Treatment:
Most patients notice some immediate relief, with continued improvement over the following 24-48 hours as the cellular healing response progresses. For chronic conditions, cumulative improvement builds with each session.

- Treatment Protocol:
Acute conditions: **6-10 sessions** over 2-3 weeks
Chronic conditions: **10-15 sessions** over 4-6 weeks, sometimes with ongoing maintenance
Your provider will recommend a specific protocol based on your diagnosis and response.

I came to Adapt Health Clinic to get treated for an old foot injury. I was in unbearable ankle pain, my daily activity levels went down to almost zero because of the pain. I went to physical therapy for months and saw little to no results. After just 3 shockwave sessions I saw more progress than I did the entire time I went to traditional physical therapy. My pain has significantly reduced and I’m well on my way back to my normal activity levels. I really can’t thank shockwave and Dr. Kyndra enough. Dr. Kyndra really knows her stuff and she’s been awesome at guiding me through this type of treatment. Huge shout out to Dr. Kyndra!Posted on Google![]()

I absolutely love coming to see Dr. Mike and his team. Every time I leave, I feel better and lighter, and I honestly look forward to my visits. Dr. Mike introduced me to laser therapy and it’s been such a game changer for my chronic pain and migraines. I didn’t realize how much relief was possible until now. Dr. Kyndra is amazing with cupping, and the way she does it feels so healing. The masseuse is also incredible and really completes the whole experience. You can tell they all care about their patients and put their heart into the work. I’m just really grateful to have found them.Posted on Google![]()

I had a fantastic experience at Adapt Health Clinic! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing from the moment you walk in. My masseuse, Nathalia, was incredibly attentive, she took the time to listen to my concerns and tailored the treatment perfectly to what I needed. I really appreciated how knowledgeable she was about different techniques and treatment options, and how she explained everything clearly. I left feeling noticeably better and cared for. Highly recommend Adapt Health Clinic for anyone looking for professional, personalized care and exceptional massage therapy!Posted on Google![]()

I had an excellent experience with Nathalie (Nathi). After hip surgery, I was dealing with tightness, soreness, and limited mobility, and the combination of massage therapy and acupuncture made a huge difference. Nathi took the time to really understand my recovery needs and tailored the session perfectly, focusing on the right areas with just the right level of pressure and technique. I left feeling more relaxed, with noticeably improved range of motion and reduced discomfort. Beyond the skill, Nathi brings a calm, caring, and professional energy that makes the whole experience restorative. I highly recommend her to anyone recovering from surgery or looking for thoughtful, effective bodywork.Posted on Google![]()

I’ve had lingering shoulder/pec tendon issues from an old injury. I’ve been getting shockwave and laser treatment at this clinic. The treatment has been helpful and It has been a great experience ! Usually I leave the clinic with more range of motion than when I arrived. My shoulder gets pretty achy from it in the following days so proper recovery and the right amount of PT for retraining movement patterns is helpful for locking in progress. Definitely recommend!Posted on Google![]()

Nathalia is the one of the best massage therapists I’ve ever had. She has tons of experience and can always find my trouble spots. She is super caring and supportive and will always follow up with you to make sure your body feels better after each session. She makes things easy and you feel comfortable talking to her right away. She’s also really strong in case you need a heavy hand for those sore and trouble spots on your body.Posted on Google![]()
